If you are working in an industry that needs tough, hard wearing clothes that are also visible in the gloom then you need hi vis workwear that lasts. Normally in luminous yellow or orange, this type of workwear is crucial when it comes to safety clothing. If it is vital that you are seen, no matter what the weather, then high visibility material is what you need.

It is also seen much better in the dark when lights are shone on it, for example like car head lights, as it seems to glow and reflect the glare. This is due to retro reflective strips, normally in a bright white, that are placed across the garment and reflect back the light.

There are many uses for this type of material and clothing. It was first used by Scottish rail workers back in the 1960s with orange jackets known as 'fire flies' and it was soon established, once this had been rolled out to other areas, that the amount of accidents involving railwaymen decreased substantially.

Now high visibility workwear is a familiar sight throughout the country in many different guises from building sites and traffic policemen to lollipop ladies and even retro reflective strips on the backs of children's' bags as they cycle along. The fluorescent quality of the main body of the clothing means it is easier to spot during the day and is often worn by people who have to work in areas where there is a lot of moving machinery.
